Once a Samurai ...
Michael Cameron has been a biology teacher, a musician, a novelist, and a martial arts instructor. All his life he’s been an intelligent problem-solver but, when all else fails, his source of stability, his grounding force has been the Zen teachings of the Shaolin and the discipline of Bushido. When his world is turned upside-down by the failure of his second marriage, (Michael’s first wife died of cancer), Mike disappears, spending two years in Japan, China, and Tibet. The death of his mother and learning that his father, former Detective Inspector Will Cameron, is dying of lung cancer, bring Michael back home to Halifax, where he opens a martial arts studio.
Vampires have been an integral part of society for some time. Most live productive, useful lives, even if they are limited to working the night shift. But some are renegade, preying on humans. Tony Dewhurst is a profiler for Interpol, specializing in these unique serial killers. Tony’s knowledge of vampires is extensive and personal – so personal that he can’t kill them. He needs help from the one man he’s known for most of his life – a man whose always been just a bit stronger and faster than most humans – a man named Michael Cameron.
More than one vampire is killing people in Halifax. Mike’s godfather, Detective Inspector Pete MacDonald doesn’t know how to deal with it. The public can’t know about vampires. At first Mike is reluctant, but now it’s becoming personal. He’s been marked as a target and one was sent to kill him. If that isn’t enough to shake his world view, wait ’til he finds out why the martial arts always came so easily to him and why he’s so fast.
